When people talk about dream honeymoons, the Maldives always seems to come up. And for good reason — endless turquoise waters, powdery white sand, and that feeling of being tucked away from the rest of the world. But it’s not just the photos that make it magical. It’s the way it feels when you’re there.

I had the chance to visit Kuredu many years ago, and to this day, it remains one of the most peaceful and romantic places I’ve ever experienced. Whether you’re into diving, sipping cocktails beneath swaying palm trees, or simply floating in the warm ocean next to your partner — this island has something special for every couple.

Where is Kuredu?

Kuredu is one of the larger islands in the northern part of the Lhaviyani Atoll, around a 40-minute seaplane ride from Malé. That flight alone is worth the journey — soaring above coral atolls and sapphire-blue water in a tiny plane that feels more like a private adventure than public transport.

Why It’s Perfect for Newlyweds

It’s not just the setting (though that truly feels straight out of a dream). What makes Kuredu special is the balance between total relaxation and just enough activity to keep each day feeling full — but never rushed. There are no cars, no crowds, no schedules. Just space to breathe, be present, and enjoy each other.

You wake up in a beach bungalow to the gentle sound of waves, walk barefoot across soft sand, and watch the sun rise with a cup of coffee in hand. Breakfast flows into beach time, then maybe a snorkel or dive, and then an evening of candlelit dinner and stargazing. It’s like time pauses just for you.

For Diving Lovers

If you’re into diving — or even just curious — Kuredu is a fantastic base. The dive center is professional and welcoming, and the surrounding reefs are teeming with life. I’ve had the chance to dive in many places over the years, but there’s something uniquely calm and vibrant about Maldivian waters. They’re often so full of turtles and rays that you lose count.

This winter, I’m planning to return and explore other islands to dive and discover new spots — but I already know I’ll end up comparing them to Kuredu. That island stays with you.

What Else Is There to Do?

Plenty — if you want it. Book a private dinner on the beach, sail into the sunset with dolphins alongside, or enjoy a couples massage while the sea breeze rolls through the spa. But honestly, the beauty is in the simplicity. Even just sitting on your porch with a good book and a glass of wine becomes a moment you’ll remember.

Small Tips If You’re Going

  • Choose a beach bungalow on the inner side of the island (facing the calm waters of the atoll). It’s quiet, peaceful, and perfect for honeymooners.
  • Stay at least 9–10 days. It takes a few days to truly settle into island time — after that, everything begins to feel timeless.
  • Don’t skip the snorkeling. Even if diving isn’t for you, you’ll be amazed by the marine life just meters from the shore. Kuredu’s house reef is full of color and life.

A Gentle Reminder

If you’re still deep in the wedding planning phase, I know the honeymoon can feel like something to figure out later. But maybe — just maybe — planning the honeymoon can be the light at the end of the tunnel. Something beautiful to daydream about when the guest list gets stressful or the seating chart refuses to cooperate.

And when you’re ready to take a breath, sit down with your partner, open a map, and say: “What if we started our forever… here?”

Wherever you go for your honeymoon, let it be a reward — not another thing to plan. Let it be quiet. Let it be breathtaking. Let it feel like the beginning of something truly unforgettable. For me, that place was Kuredu. And maybe, for you, it will be too.
